Mangal Bhaat Puja Ujjain: Significance, Puja Vidhi, Benefits, and Mangal Dosh Nivaran

Mangal Bhaat Puja Ujjain: Significance, Puja Vidhi, Benefits, and Mangal Dosh Nivaran
According to Vedic astrology, when the planet Mars (Mangal) is situated in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house in a person's birth chart, it creates Mangalik Dosh (Mangal Dosh). This Dosh primarily causes delays in marriage, discord in married life, and instability in careers. To nullify Mangal Dosh, Mangal Bhaat Puja performed in Ujjain is considered the most infallible and powerful Vedic remedy.

Major Symptoms and Effects of Mangal Dosh

The planet Mars is known as the commander among the planets. It signifies courage and fire, but when inauspicious, it can cause numerous problems in life. Some common symptoms of Mangal Dosh are:
  • Obstacles in Marriage: Sudden breakage of alliances or excessive delay in getting married.
  • Family Discord: Major disputes between husband and wife over trivial matters, and constant tension.
  • Aggressive Nature: Getting angry quickly and increasing stubbornness.
  • Health Issues: Blood-related diseases, high blood pressure, or frequent injuries/accidents.
  • Financial Crisis: Being in debt for a long time and property disputes.

Why does Mangal Bhaat Puja hold special significance in Ujjain?

According to the Skanda Purana (Avantika Khanda), Ujjain is the birthplace of the planet Mars. The legend says that when Lord Shiva was fighting the demon Andhakasura, a drop of Shiva's sweat fell on this sacred land of Ujjain. The earth split open from that drop, and the red-colored Mangal Dev was born.
Since Ujjain is the birthplace of Mars, the pacification of Mangal Dosh is believed to be especially fruitful here. A special coating (Lepan) of cooked rice (Bhaat) is applied to the Lingam form of Lord Shiva. In religious tradition, rice is considered to have a cooling nature, and the symbolic use of Bhaat in this puja is intended to pacify the fierce nature of Mars.

The Process of Mangal Bhaat Puja

This ritual is performed in a highly sacred and Vedic manner, and the duration depends entirely on the specific type of Puja chosen. The main process of the Puja is as follows:
  • Sankalp: First, a special Sankalp (vow) for Mangal Shanti is taken according to the host's name, Gotra, and birth Nakshatra.
  • Ganesh and Navagraha Pujan: Lord Ganesha (the remover of obstacles) and all nine planets are invoked.
  • Panchamrit Abhishek: An Abhishek of Lord Shiva is performed with milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar along with the chanting of Vedic mantras.
  • Bhaat (Rice) Lepan: A special coating or adornment (Shringar) of the Shivling is done with cooked pure rice. According to religious beliefs, Bhaat Lepan is performed as a symbolic measure to pacify the fierceness of Mars.
  • Aarti and Mantra Jaap: Finally, the Mangal mantra "Om Kram Kreem Kroum Sah Bhaumaya Namah" is chanted, and the Aarti of Lord Shiva is performed.

Religious Benefits and Puja Booking

According to traditional beliefs, Mangal Bhaat Puja is performed to pacify the anxieties associated with Mangal Dosh, bringing positivity and mental peace to marital life. The results of the puja are believed to vary based on an individual's faith, birth chart, and religious traditions.
